Why This Course is Unmissable
This one-day course shows water technicians, lead techs, project managers, and water managers how to perform the job correctly, document with purpose, and justify their scope of work using the S500 and applicable laws and regulations.
Production crews doing the right work and communicating clearly with the office is the first step to getting paid. While they may not negotiate directly with adjusters, failing to train production teams on how their field decisions impact negotiations can cost companies tens of thousands of dollars each year. This course helps fix that gap.
This training is the first part of the 3 day Get Paid for Water Restoration Series, designed so each role attends only the days relevant to them. No wasted time and no off-topic training. The result? A fully aligned company that works smarter, supports proper scope, and gets paid faster and more consistently.

What Time Zone Are the Classes in?
All classes, In-Person and Livestream, are held in eastern standard time, EST, unless otherwise specified.
Will I Need to Bring Any Tools?
WRT/ASD: No tools are needed. You are welcome to bring your own meters if you wish. However, we will provide everything that is needed for class. Since you will at times be learning in the flooded house, we recommend work-appropriate clothing.
Estimating and Negotiating Combo: You will need to bring a laptop with Xactimate already downloaded on the laptop.
Will I Need to Bring a Laptop?
For Hands-On Courses (WRT/ASD): You do not need to bring a computer.
For Estimating and Negotiating and our Estimating and Negotiating Plus Courses, we highly recommend you bring a laptop with Xactimate installed on it. We also recommend you bring a tablet, if at all possible, for use during the Xactimate Mobile training portion of this course.
How does the pricing of this course work?
The best option is to purchase a package that will train your entire company. A new owner can choose to just take the 4 day course on their own. If a company has multiple levels of production, select the multi-employee package. You can purchase up to 5 or 10 employees and put them through just the days of training that pertains to their role. Or they can take all 4 days of the training (although that isn’t recommended).
Who should attend this course?
- Technicians, lead techs, and project managers should attend Day 1, focused on field-level documentation and communication. They don’t need to sit through estimating or reporting content.
- Estimators attend Days 2–3, where the focus is on building strong scopes, mastering Xactimate, and negotiating effectively. While some production topics are touched on for alignment, the emphasis stays on estimating.
- Owner/operators may choose to attend all 4 days to develop or refine company-wide SOPs.
How do we leverage the S500 and customer support to gain agreement with adjusters?
We teach you to use the S500 Standard not just as a reference, but as your authoritative foundation. You’ll learn how to confidently present its relevant sections to justify critical scope items, transforming it from a passive document into an active negotiation tool. Furthermore, the training provides a clear strategy for proactively engaging your customer as a supportive ally, ensuring alignment before the first estimate is ever submitted. This dual approach builds an irrefutable case for proper scope.
What are the most frequently missed Xactimate line items that impact profitability?
This course focuses on the high-value, commonly overlooked items that quietly erode job margins. We move beyond basic data entry to spotlight items often missed in demolition, drying equipment configuration, necessary administrative tasks, and proper waste handling. You’ll leave with a concrete checklist of these line items, empowering you to create more complete and profitable estimates from the start.
How can we adjust Xactimate pricing the right way, without raising red flags?
Arbitrary price overrides are a quick path to disputes. We train you in the principled methodology for adjusting line-item pricing. This includes using credible, localized data sources (like third-party price lists and market condition adjustments) to build a documented justification. You’ll learn how to present these adjustments clearly and professionally, satisfying carrier requirements while ensuring your company is paid fairly for local costs.
Why does the timing of communication with adjusters matter, and what's the best strategy?
Timing is a critical leverage point often ignored. Initiating contact early in the process—often before the estimate is finalized—establishes a collaborative tone and allows you to frame the narrative. The course provides a proven communication timeline, teaching you when to send key updates, supporting photos, and scope narratives to keep the file moving forward smoothly and avoid last-minute conflicts that delay payment.
